How the current koe preview handles recordings, credentials, and connections. No vague “everything stays private” promise.

Recordings and text

When you start dictation, koe records microphone audio to a temporary WAV file on your Mac. When you stop, the app sends that recording directly to your selected transcription service.

There is no koe-operated transcription server in this preview. The response is inserted into the focused app using the clipboard, or left on the clipboard when Accessibility permission is unavailable.

koe attempts to delete the temporary recording after the request finishes, including when transcription fails. An app crash or forced quit can interrupt cleanup. There is no built-in transcript history, but text pasted into another app is subject to that app’s storage and privacy behavior.

Your API credentials

API keys are saved in macOS Keychain, separately for Azure OpenAI, OpenAI, and compatible services. They are not stored in ordinary preferences, embedded in the app, or sent to this website.

A key is transmitted to the endpoint you configure to authenticate transcription requests. Use only providers and URLs you trust. Remote connections require HTTPS; loopback HTTP is supported for locally operated compatible servers.

No developer key or shared Azure credits are supplied. The developer cannot provide API access through this website.

Your provider has its own policies

Sending audio for cloud transcription gives your chosen provider access to that audio. Retention, processing location, abuse monitoring, and other data handling depend on your provider, account, and configuration. Deleting the local recording does not delete a provider’s copy.

The app does not automatically switch your provider if a request fails.

This website

The demonstration is a prewritten illustration. It does not record you, request microphone access, contact an AI API, or create a koe account. The site does not ask for API keys or payment details.

Fonts and images are served with the website. We do not add advertising, analytics scripts, tracking cookies, or a mailing-list form. Cloudflare hosts and delivers the site and may process ordinary request information, such as IP address and browser information, for delivery and security. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

You stay in control

  • Start and stop recording explicitly with the shortcut or menu.
  • Choose the active provider in Settings → Connection.
  • Revoke Microphone or Accessibility access in macOS System Settings.
  • Revoke an API key at your provider. To remove saved keys from the Mac, find the com.koe.dictation entries in Keychain Access and delete the appropriate credential.
  • Quit or uninstall koe to stop using the app.

There is no koe account to delete. Uninstalling the application may leave preferences and Keychain entries behind; remove them separately if desired.

koe is built by Yuya Ito. Use the public issue tracker for non-sensitive questions. Never post keys, personal transcripts, or private recordings there. For data held by a transcription provider, contact that provider directly.
